MP Neil will stand in general election

-

SNP’s Neil Gray this week confirmed he intends to stand for re-election after Prime Minister Theresa May announced a snap general election .

Mr Gray took the Airdrie and Shotts seat from Labour in the 2015 General Election with a thumping 8,779 majority after polling 23,887 votes.

He said:“It has been an honour to represent the people of Airdrie and Shotts as their MP for the last two years and that is why I am seeking re-election at the general election on June 8.

“This election has been called in the most cynical manner as Theresa May breaks her own promise in the hope that she will increase her majority and force through her right wing Tory vision for the country.

“She is not acting in the best interests of the country, but in the interest of the Tory party.

“We now have another opportunity in Airdrie and Shotts and across Scotland to reject Tory austerity that has caused so much damage since 2010.

“For the last two years it has been commonly accepted that the SNP has formed the effective opposition to the Tories at Westminster and now we know it is only the SNP which stands in the way of further Tory austerity being forced on Scotland.

And Mr Gray added:“If confirmed as the SNP candidate I will be fighting this campaign on my record of hard work both at Westminster and here in Airdrie and Shotts since 2015 and as I campaign for every vote I hope that my constituents will again place their trust in me to represent them in the House of Commons.”
