MP Marion will stand in elections
Announces her candidacy at public meeting
Motherwell and Wishaw MP Marion Fellows confirmed that she will stand again as the SNP candidate in the upcoming general election on June 8.
Mrs Fellows made the announcement in Motherwell on Sunday at a public meeting with constituents.
She was joined by a number of SNP councillor candidates from the constituency.
Parliamentary data has shown that Mrs Fellows has signed and tabled more motions and made more contributions in debates and question times than her Labour predecessor Frank Roy.
SNP MPs have also been the hardest working group. SNP MPs spoke in an average of 64 debates last year, significantly more than Labour and Tory MPs at 43 and 38 respectively.
Since elected, Mrs Fellows’ has also assisted constituents in 4,621 cases.
She said: “I am excited to be confirmed as the SNP candidate for Motherwell and Wishaw in the general election on June 8.
“As the MP for the past two years, I have represented local people by focusing on the issues important to us: supporting our community, fighting poverty caused by Tory austerity, and growing our local economy.
“This election will be about what kind of country we want Scotland to be. With Labour in disarray, the SNP is the only opposition to the Tories. A vote for the SNP is a vote against the Tories and their narrow minded and austerity obsessed agenda.
“I am proud of my record and want to continue working hard to provide a strong voice for the community and for Scotland.
“Over the coming weeks, the SNP be working harder than ever to win the support of local people to elect SNP candidates in the council and general elections.
“Now more than ever Scotland needs strong SNP opposition to an emboldened Tory government who think they can do what they want to the people of Scotland and get away with it.”
