Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church A new counsellin­g service is available at the church to allow members, friends, relatives to speak to a qualified and experience­d counsellor in complete confidence. With the usual focus on young families this event will have a theme on the story of Daniel. There will be lots of fun, games and activities, concluding with a meal to finish at 5pm. Please register at the church website (dalzielsta­ndrews.org.uk) if you would like to attend. No charge will be made for attendance. A “Signing in Church Workshop” will take place at the church on Saturday, May 13, starting from 10.30am to 3.30pm. This event is being organised by Rev Rosie Addis, deaf developmen­t worker for the Church of Scotland. The workshop is open to all who are interested in this important and exciting way to communicat­e either at the church or via the internet. No charge is being made for attendance. This year’s annual review for the Motherwell Battalion of the Boys’ Brigade will take place in the church on the evening of Friday, May 12, starting at 7.30pm. The next meeting of the Kirk Session will be held on Thursday, May 11, at 7.30pm. Following morning worship on Sunday, May 14, a soup and sweet lunch will be held in the large hall of the church with all proceeds going to this year’s Christian Aid appeal. All are welcome to join in worship on Sundays, at the 11am service, either at the church or via the internet with catch-up available on YouTube. Aston Villa 2001 The team who are based in Lanarkshir­e are currently looking to enhance their squad for next season. They have enjoyed a very good run towards the end of this season which has seen them being promoted to LFDA A league. Any players who are looking for a change or a new challenge in their footballin­g career are welcome to come along and train with the team, who meet twice a week with games played on Sunday mornings. Inner wheel Club of Motherwell and Wishaw President Margaret Keeper welcomed club members to the April meeting held in the Moorings Hotel. Margaret also welcomed Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw president James Gibbons and other rotary members to their internatio­nal charity evening. A special welcome was also given to Margaret Curness, who represente­d this year’s chosen charity, the Purple Community Fund. The club chooses one internatio­nal charity each year. Margaret Curness gave an informativ­e and interestin­g talk on the origins and aims of the charity which was started by one woman, Jane Walker MBE. She saw children gathering rubbish on a dump site in Manila and started a school for them in a warehouse, which was eventually expanded in 2010 into a purpose-built larger building constructe­d from container vans. The children and their parents are helped through a system of food credits: the child attends school and learns during that time in order to earn enough credits to take food home to the family at the end of the week. The children’s mothers teach themselves to crochet using ring pulls from drinks cans and make costume jewellery using glossy magazines as raw materials, which are available on the dump site. The club had raised a generous £589 for the charity and
