Night noise warning at railway line works
24-hr and weekend shifts
People have been warned to brace themselves for excess noise at night when work steps up to electrify the Shotts line.
Network Rail have announced that they are set to work through the night and at weekends to deliver the £5.7m project to electrify the Glasgow to Edinburgh line.
They have issued a letter to residents and placed their update on social media.
Network Rail say the day time shift work will be ongoing throughtout the bridge works from 7am to 7pm.
To maintain the programme, Network Rail insist day time weekend working will be required for key activities.
For platform reinstatment, midweek night shift works will take place from 8pm to 6am from Tuesday, April 18, to Sunday, June 11.
And the removal of temporary walks ways and foundations will take place over two weekends in July.
The works will take place on Saturday, July 8, to Monday, July 10, and Saturday, July 15, to Monday, July 17.
Owen Campbell, Network Rail’s communication manager Scotland, said: “As the project progresses, updated information will be issued advising all line side neighbours of changes/additions to planned night shift activities and confirmation of the key dates and working times.”
And he added: “Under our licence conditions we are contractuarly obliged to work, where possible, in a way that minimises distruption to train services i.e at night and at weekends.
“This though also provides a safer environment for the work force.
“The equipment we use means some disturbance is unavoidable, but we will make every effort to minimise noise and those working on site are briefed on working responsibility in the local community.”
Last year Shotts Community Council heard how many businesses were suffering lose of trade while the work was going on in the town for almost a year.
And Sandra Paterson said she was forced to close Sandra ‘s Selections because of the road closure at the bridge.
Clark’s Bakery closed down last November because of the fall in trade in the Dykehead area.
