It’s now time to make Wishaw thrive again
The view of the majority of people in Wishaw is they want to see the town centre thriving again.
Many believe the controversial Streetscape project has caused trading in the town centre to take a downward spiral and want to see this improve.
With the Wishaw ward having seven candidates, voters are not short on options at the local elections with the chance to decide what matters most to them.
We took to the streets to find out exactly what residents want from their newly-elected councillors after tomorrow’s election.
Des Kane, who lives in Dimsdale, wants to see an improved town centre following the loss of a number of retailers in Wishaw over the past few years.
He said:“We need to make a good job of the Main Street, but when you see companies like WH Smith walking away it doesn’t look great.
“There is now a car park that shoppers can use so there’s really no excuse. There should be new shops for people to go to.
“There is enough people living in Wishaw for there to be a decent town centre.
“Years ago I stayed in Shotts and everyone headed for Wishaw for their shopping, but now people are going further afield.”
Wishaw woman Dorothy McLintock said: “Whoever is elected needs to take a long hard look at our health service. The waiting times is ridiculous. Something needs to be done to improve this immediately before things get out of control.
“I really hope the SNP do not take over North Lanarkshire Council. I disagree with everything they stand for.

“The way things are being run at the moment are a complete joke. Whoever made the decision to‘revamp’ Wishaw Main Street should be questioned.
“The place is a complete disaster zone. It was 10 times better before they spent millions of pounds destroying it. “I think it should be put back to the way it was. “The Main Street is always dead now and that’s the reason why. What they have done and destroyed in not improved it.”
