Week-day service The week-day service held in St John’s Church on Thursday of last week was led by the church minister Rev Dr Elijah Obinna. His interesting address was based on Psalm 129, which was found to be most entertaining by all those who attended. During the service special prayers were offered for Dr Ann Jackson, who has been unwell at this time, for a speedy recovery from all her friends at the church. The service was followed by a busy kettle’s on event, with everyone enjoying the tea, coffee and chat. Come along to this service which is held in the church on Thursday mornings, at 10.30am. Grace Notes Choir Members of the Grace Notes youth choir would like to sincerely thank all those who attended their recent soup lunch held at St John’s Church on Sunday of last week, where a sum of £500 was raised towards the choir’s funds. It is hoped that the young choir will be able to attend this year’s 2017 Gathering which will take place in the town later in the year in order to raise additional funds. Members of the choir rehearse in St John’s Church hall on Tuesday evenings of each week, from 7pm to 8.30pm. The choir is open to boys and girls from Primary Seven upwards who are interested in singing and music. New members will be made welcome. World Mission stamp appeal South Sudan has suffered terrible violence and war in recent years and resources including books were destroyed or lost during that time. To help to support their partners, the PCOSS charity are collecting all used stamps which can then be sold to raise money for such resources. Residents in the town are encouraged to trim their stamps so that they have a 1cm border around the stamp. These can be handed into any of the churches around the town to support this great cause. Day Centre The winners of the games afternoon held at the centre on Thursday of last week were as follows: A group of crafty Carluke friends have knitted their way to raising almost £45,000 for charity.

The Carluke Friends of CHAS (Children’s Hospice Association Scotland) was formed in 2003, and the ladies have travelled all over Scotland selling their impressive wares at craft shows over the years.

Nan Smith, Margaret Gillespie and Robina Wilson started out on the fundraising adventure by selling knitted cardigans, marmalade and tablet locally.

They have since been joined by Margaret’s daughter, Janet McKay, and her sister-in-law, Geraldine McKay, and Robina’s daughter Elizabeth Wilson, and have branched out with a popular range of knitted animals, decorative yarn circles and themed products for Easter, Hallowe’en and Christmas.

Some of the ladies took part in the KiltWalk in Glasgow on Sunday (April 30) in a bid to raise even more cash for CHAS, while Elizabeth is preparing for an abseil at the Forth Road Bridge next month.
