Labour and SNP deal is the best option
Labour and the SNP could have a “working arrangement” to form the next administration in North Lanarkshire, the Wishaw Press can reveal.
Labour leadaer Jim Logue has refused to rule out doing a deal with either SNP or Conservatives to cling on to power.
But one senior council source said: “The people have decided that there needs to be a working arrangement between Labour and the SNP as none of the parties can go alone in a minority administration.”
When quizzed by the Wishaw Press if he would go into coalition with the Tories, councillor Logue insisted: “I am ruling nothing in and ruling nothing out.”
And it comes as SNP Group Leader David Stocks said his party McKendrick, won two seats.
Councillor McKendrick has ruled out a deal to back any party .
He said: “I get those votes from both Labour and SNP supporters .
“My people mean too much to me to accept a position supporting either Labour or the SNP.
“I have been offered positions on the council, positions that would mean more money to me.
“I have refused those positions. Integrity and principles are what this is about.”
The big losers were the Independent Alliance Party who returned no councillors, and long-standing Wishaw councillors including Sam Love and Frank McKay lost as did former Craigneuk councillor Gary O’Rorke.
