Man, 42, battered by gang in brutal attack

Victim suffered serious head injuries

A man was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries following a brutal early morning attack.

The 42-year-old man was in Craigneuk’s Glenclelan­d Road at around 1am on Friday, May 5, when he was set upon by a gang.

During the vicious attack the victim suffered a fractured eye socket and cheekbone as well as a broken nose. He was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where he received treatment .

Police have described the attack as a “serious assault” and are appealing for the public’s help in catching the attackers.

No descriptio­ns of those involved have been released as CID officers try to discover who was behind the attack.

Inspector Billy Jeffrey, from Motherwell Police Office, hopes informatio­n from residents will help police with their inquiries. He said: “Detectives are currently progressin­g with their investigat­ion.

“The victim in this case suffered serious head injuries and this disturbanc­e took place out in the street.

“Both men and woman were involved in the incident.

“We would appeal to anyone who was in the area at that time to come forward and assist the police with our enquiries.”

Police are also appealing for informatio­n after a woman was assaulted in Craigneuk on Thursday night.

The 39- year- old woman was assaulted in Golfhill Road around 6.20pm on May 4.

No descriptio­n has been given of her attacker but officers are keen to speak to anyone in the area then.
