Selfish drivers put lives at risk
Firefighters blocked by parked cars
Residents have called for action after a fire engine was forced to stop because it couldn’t get past cars in Gorsehall Street.
Now Cleland Community Council have issued an appeal for all residents to consider where they park their vehicle.
The issue was discussed at the village’s community council meeting.
And after the meeting, a post on the community council’s Facebook page read: “Inconsiderate parking could delay emergency response vehicles and delays could cost lives.”
One community councillor said: “A fire engine had to wait in Gorsehall Street for 10 minutes because of cars parked on the pavements. The firefighters had to get out of the vehicle. “What if there had been a serious fire?”
And one resident suggested transforming the old swingpark nearby into a carpark.
The community council agreed to contact Matt Costello, the council’s regenration manager, about their concerns.
A council spokesman said parking restrictions were not appropirate in the street.
She added: “Drivers should park in way that does not cause any obstruction of the public road.
“The council would encourage drivers to park considerately and off-street where possible.
“There are no plans to introduce waiting restrictions on Gorsehall Street.”
