Lanarkshire Family History Society The society’s next meeting will be their annual general meeting, after which Robin Strong will be exploring the life of Robert Burns. Robin will be asking (and answering) three questions not normally brought up at Burns suppers including - where Rabbie found his inspiration, how he managed to produce so much work, and why he couldn’t give up “the day job”. The meeting will take place in the GLO Centre, Muir Street, Motherwell, on Thursday, May 11, at 7pm. All are welcome. Beltane Bowling Club The next monthly dance will be held in the club on Saturday, June 3, with the Johnny Weir Sound providing the entertainment. A sing song runs at the club every Sunday night from 8pm. All welcome. Aston Villa 2001 The team who are based in Lanarkshire are currently looking to enhance their squad for next season. They have enjoyed a very good run towards the end of this season which has seen them being promoted to LFDA A league. Any players who are looking for a change or a new challenge in their footballing career are welcome to come along and train with the team, who meet twice a week with games played on Sunday mornings. Royal Engineer Association The Lanarkshire branch next monthly meeting will take place at the Indoor Bowling Club, Quarry Street, Coatbridge on Monday, May 15, at 8pm. The Association welcomes all Sappers, serving or retired, regular, national service, TA and attached personnel. They also welcome all Sapper visitors to the area. Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church Minister Derek Hughes will continue his talks on the mini series looking at the message from the Old Testament’s Book of Daniel at the service held in the church on Sunday morning at 11am. All are most welcome to attend, or can join in live worship via the internet at dalzielstandrews.org.uk. Services include British Sign Language signing and electronic note taking to assist the deaf or hard of hearing. A soup and sweet lunch will be held in the large church hall immediately after this service with all proceeds going to Christian Aid. Entry costs £3 for adult; £1.50 for children. A short service will be held in the lounge at Glenview Court at 3pm, when again all are welcome. The kirk session meet this Thursday, May 11, at 7.30pm, with the congregational board meeting at the same time the following week. This Friday evening the annual review of the Motherwell battalion of the Boys’ Brigade will takes place at the church, starting at 7pm. With the congregation reaching out to the deaf community to join in worship, a workshop is being held on Saturday, May 13, from 10am until 3.30pm, when all those interested in this area of work are welcome to come and join in. The sessions are being led by Rev Rosie Addis and Rev Richard Durno, both ministers of the Church of Scotland, who serve the deaf community in the east and west of Scotland respectively.
