Crash kid suffers collar bone break

Ross will be out for at least three weeks

- Michael Temlett

Cambusnethan minimoto racer Ross Maguire has suffered a double break to his collarbone.

The 11-year-old was competing in the first round of the UK Minimoto Championship in Middlesbrough when he was thrown from his bike.

During qualifying in the Featherweight Class, Ross crashed heading towards the back straight and was launched across the track.

First aiders rushed to the youngster but he bravely managed to walk off the circuit. However, his day of racing was finished as he headed to hospital where it was confirmed he had a double break in his collarbone.

Ross was looking to defend two titles he won at last year’s UK Championship as well as focusing on the British Championships where he races for Bennett’s Suzuki. The racer’s dad David said: “Ross will be out of action for a while but he’s doing OK with it.

“He’s very upbeat about it and is looking forward to getting back on his bike.

“He will miss the next round of the UK championship in two weeks at Knockhill in Fife but he has set his sights on racing at round three of the British championships at Rowrah circuit in Cumbria in three weeks if he is healed in time.

“It’s not the normal good news but I suppose with the racing he does and the speeds he goes an injury can happen anytime.”
