Over the past five years, fire crews throughout Scotland have been called to more than 3,840 house fires where an electrical appliance was the source of ignition.

Nearly 1,800 of the fires were sparked by wiring, cabling and plugs.

Firefighte­rs are clear people need to switch off and unplug such appliances as part of their night- time routine and whenever they leave the house.

Rescue spokespers­on said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was called at 5.41pm on Wednesday, May 10, to reports of a fire at a property in Wishaw.

“Three fire appliances were mobilised to the incident at Northmuir Drive.

“Firefighte­rs extinguish­ed the fire using powerful water jets.

“One casualty was assessed on the scene by paramedics.

“Crews left after ensur ing the area was made safe. A fire investigat­ion has now taken place to establish the circumstan­ces of the incident.”
