Tablet sale to boost Malawi
Calderhead S2 pupil, Amy, raised over £200 for the partnership school in Malawi.
Amy enlisted the help of her family to create delicious homemade tablet which she then sold in school and to friends and family with all the proceeds going to Malawi. Bake Sale S6 pupil, Carys, held a fundraising event in support of Cancer Research UK. Carys organised a ‘coffee afternoon’ in the school for senior pupils and teachers with tea and coffee and delicious home baking. The event raised over £60 for those battling with cancer and their families with all funds donated to cancer charity. Badges for Charity Mrs Crosbie’s knitting club has produced some wonderful lapel badges in support of the Les Hoey DreamMaker Foundation. These badges were designed and made by the pupils in Calderhead High School, and are limited to a run of about 80. They are currently on sale in the school for a minimum donation of £1 with all proceeds going to the Foundation. Dance Competition S6 pupil, Ewan, was part of the Bellshill Academy team that won the NLC contemporary dance competition at Greenfaulds High School. Their dance was about raising awareness for Cancer Research UK and people can see a video extract on the school Twitter account. Ewan is a talented dancer and studied Higher Dance at Bellshill Academy. Ewan also participated in the prestigious Transitions 20/40 Dance programme at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, which offers specialist training and mentoring to young people who are interested in pursuing a career in professional dance. Hairspray Jr The Shotts St Patrick Amateur Opera Group recently staged an excellent production of “Hairspray Jr.” in Calderhead High School with pupils, Jack and Morgan, starring in principal roles. The show got rave reviews so congratulations to Jack and Morgan and all the performers in the show (and everyone else who made it such a success). Medal for Mackenzie Congratulations to talented S2 pupil, Mackenzie, who recently won the under-17 West of Scotland Solo Drumming competition at the RSPBA competition. The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association is the heart and home of pipe bands worldwide and the recognised centre of excellence for the promotion and development of pipe band music internationally. Transitions Study leave for senior students started recently and the school said a fond farewell to S6 and some other senior pupils. The “leavers” enjoyed assemblies with the headteacher and depute headteach and were treated to a lunchtime buffet. The school would like to wish them luck in their upcoming exams and assessments and all the best for the future. P7 students joined the shcool for two weeks last week as part of their transition to high school. Calderhead enjoyed having them in the school and were very impressed with their behaviour, attitude and enthusiasm.
