Houldswort­h Bowling Club There will be dancing to Half and Half, bingo and treasure chest in the club this Saturday. All welcome. South Wishaw Parish Church Midweek service is held in the church at 12pm every Wednesday. This is followed by a lunch club from around 12.30pm between September and June, before the Wednesday Welcome at 1.30pm to 3.30pm. This week will see a nail bar and quiz with bigscreen movie next week, top vocalist Jim Gilmour on May 31, John’s karaoke singalong on June 7, summer crafts on June 14, and summer ball on June 21. There is something for everyone. These activities are open to all. Entrance costs £2 per week (includes tea and goodies!). Join in for some fun and friendship. All welcome. Sharing Circle meets on Thursdays at 1.30pm, Saturday Cafeteria is held from 10am to 1pm and will see Team C on duty this week. Sunday morning worship service at 11am will be conducted by Rev Terry Moran. Now! Church is a contempora­ry expression of Christiani­ty with high-energy worship and music. Their next gathering will be held in the church hall on Sunday, June 11 from 2pm to 3.30pm. Why not come early and join in for lunch at 1pm. Wishaw Ex-servicemen’s Club Entertainm­ent for members and friends begins with cash bingo in the Tartan lounge on Friday and Sunday nights. This Saturday sees a members and friends night in the main hall with guest stars Lauren Kyle and Del Charles; entry £2 for members, £3 for non-members. Future attraction­s include members night on June 3 with entertainm­ent from Ricky Wilde and Sami Lee; members £2, nonmembers £3, members night on July 22 with two top class acts Kirk James and Elaine Grey; Eagles tribute band on August 26 - tickets cost £10. The main hall is available to book for most functions including weddings, christenin­gs, birthdays, anniversar­ies, funerals and most other occasions. Rotary Club The meeting of Motherwell and Wishaw rotary club on Thursday of last week announced that Callan Dick, a former member of the Clyde Valley rotary, had been awarded the prestigiou­s Paul Harris Fellowship award by past district governor Andy Ireland for his outstandin­g services to District 1020. The guest speaker was Father Peter Walters, who was on a six-day visit from his parish in Columbia. Fr Peter, who comes from Birmingham and is a member of the Stratford-uponAvon rotary club, was ordained as an Anglican priest in 1988 and in 1995 became a Roman Catholic priest due to his involvemen­t with the street children in Medellin. He founded the charity Let the Children Live! in 1992, and first became involved with the children 10 years earlier when they had helped him after he became temporaril­y stranded in Colombia. It is a charitable not-for-profit organisati­on and does not engage in political activity. Fr Peter said that they recognise that the phenomenon of the street-children is the product of complex social problems to which there are no easy answers. His aim is to support the Colombian people as they take the initiative in caring for the most disadvanta­ged children. Fr Peter said that they are making the most of their limited resources, but they need support from abroad for this work to continue and grow. Let the Children Live! is a Christian charity and is strongly pro-life. He believes that no human being is ‘disposable’ and that every person is precious to God. Fr Peter said they are concerned to ensure that each child is cared for as an individual,
