Billy hopes to style his way to top award
A t a l e nt e d t e e na g e hairdresser is aiming to be a cut above the rest after winning through to the finals of a national competition.
Seventeen- year- o l d stylist Billy Wood beat off stiff competition from over 40 hairdressers and made it into the last four of the Wella Xposure finals on June 5.
Billy, from Harthill, is hoping to take the top prize when the finals are held early next month at the Wella World Studios in London.
He said: “I have only been working for nine months so it’s incredible to get this far in the competition.
“Last year I was planning to go to university but then I decided I wanted to go into hairdressing.
“It was a quick decision but I am glad I made it.
“It would mean everything to me to win. “
In the finals, Billy will have one hour to cut, colour and style his model before his fate is decided by the judges.
Billy, who works at the SMB Hair in Harthill’s West Main Street and attends the Qualitas International hairdressing college, is delighted with the progress he has made since he began working.
He added: “I’m really pleased and all my family are delighted for me as well.
“I would like to thank SMB owner Sonia McIlwraith and my college teacher Laura Lightbody. They have taught me so much.”
