Christian Aid cafe was manned by St Athanasius Parish on Monday and Kirkton Church on Tuesday of this week. The cafe will be manned by St Andrews Church on Thursday and St John’s Church on Friday and the week will be completed with the United Reform Church holding the fort on Saturday. Come along and support the churches in the town. Castlehill Bowling Club hold many fundraisin­g events throughout their season and the club held a fun day for Erskine Hospital recently with a enjoyable bowls competitio­n enjoyed by all those who took part which raised a total of £200. Week-day service held in St John’s Church on Thursday of last week was conducted by minister Rev Elijah Obinna, who gave an interestin­g address. This was followed with tea and coffee served at the kettle’s on event. Come along to this service on Thursday mornings at 10.30am. Heart and Soul event will take place this Sunday in Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens. There will be a short united church service held in St John’s church before the coach leaves for the event at 12 noon. Carluke Highlander­s will close their current session with a ceilidh dance held in the Masonic Hall this Friday. For more details on the club, contact the club secretary Marion. Fun day Braidwood Primary School will hold the annual fun day in the community wing of the school this Saturday from 11am until 2pm. Come along and join in the fun and participat­e in the many attraction­s on the day. All welcome. Day Centre The members enjoyed another week of activities including a popular games afternoon on Thursday of last week. The winners were as follows: whist - J McIntyre, M Struthers and J Murdoch; dominoes - F Hill, D Boyd and J Burnleigh. The May day lunch took place on Tuesday of this week and next Tuesday, May 23, the centre’s members will pay a trip to the seaside at Ayr. Carluke 4th Boys’ Brigade were delighted to announce that a Queens Award was recently presented to Sergeant Callum Rintoul at the annual display and presentati­on event held in Carluke High School. The school’s head teacher Andy Smith was the principal guest on the night and the evening included a performanc­e from the Wishaw and District Brigade Band. Proud parents and friends of the Company also attended the event to celebrate the Brigade’s achievemen­ts this year. Lodge St John 187 played hosts to their senior members and widows at their annual dinner dance held at the Masonic Lodge on Friday of last week. Sincere thanks were given to the lodge for a most entertaini­ng evening and the lodge also held their prize bingo event on Tuesday evening of this week. Carluke Developmen­t Trust The “On the Run” event for Beatson Cancer Hospital will take place at the John Cumming Stadium Leisure Centre this Sunday. The winners of the lucky numbers draw were no 46 Charles Meechan, no 40 Leann Prior and no 10 Jack Murphy.
