struck a consolation with five minutes remaining.

The loss means there will be two local derbies next year between Shotts and Wishaw Juniors as the two square off in the Central District First.

Shotts started brightly knowing a win was the only option as they looked to overhaul the gap between themselves and fellow strugglers Maryhill and Cumbernauld United.

However, with both sides still to play each other it means Shotts will not be able to make it out of the bottom four.

Danny Burns tested the Girvan goalkeeper early on with a curling effort which looked destined to find the top corner before Johnstone flew through the air and kept it out.

However, the Bonny’s day turned for the worse on 20 minutes when Glenn Eadie was taken off with an injury with the Shotts squad already depleted.

From the restart following the medical attention to the Shotts man, Girvan took the lead as Jardine raced down the wing and played the ball in for Auld to tap home.

Just before the half hour mark, Girvan doubled their lead when Hilton misfired his shot but much to the dismay of Shotts keeper Johnny Murdoch it bounced over his head and went into the back of the net.

It was a long way back for the visitors from there and things took a turn for the worse on the hour mark as it was 3-0 as Jardine sent through Hilton for his second as he went one on one with Murdoch.

Less than five minutes later, it was all over as Cameron calmly slotted past Murdoch.

With five minutes remaining, former Wishaw Juniors striker Sean McKenna bagged a consolation before Shotts’ misery was compounded on 90 minutes as Danny Burns was ordered off for a second yellow for dissent.

Shotts have one league game left as they get set to host already relegated Blantyre Victoria this Saturday at Hannah Park. For match updates follow @ShottsBonAccord on Twitter.
