A new survey from YouGov found that the biggest fear of Britain’s population is heights.

We took to the streets of Wishaw to ask residents what their phobias were with the survey showing nearly a quarter of the UK are scared of heights with Glossophobia – the fear of public speaking – second with 20 per cent.

Grandmother and granddaughter Ienatta and Amy Love both told us what scares them the most.

Youngster Amy said: “I hate both snakes and spiders because they can just slither around or jump out at you.”

Amy’s grandmother Ienatta, originally from Poland, said: “I can’t stand the pain you get at the dentist.

“Any time you have to go there you always fear the worst so that’s probably the worst thing for me.”

Jackie McLean revealed her fear, saying: “I’m an animal lover so I get scared whenever it’s anything involving pets.

“If I see a dog at the side of the road with no lead on and I’m driving along I start to get worried that it will jump out.”

Almost 18 per cent of Brits admitted suffering from arachnophobia – a fear of spiders – and Declan Bell admitted he despises the creepy crawlies.

The Carfin youngster said: “If I had to pick a biggest fear it would be spiders because they can just crawl about so quickly without you noticing. They’re horrible.”
