More than 1000 have signed petition

- Ross Thomson

Members of Coltness Co m m u n i t y Co u n c i l have backed the Wishaw Press’s campaign for a new intermediate care home in Wishaw.

And to help the cause, members of the community council have started their own petition calling on the new North Lanarkshire Council administration to build the new £3 million facility which will help people with life-changing injuries such as strokes in the Wishaw area.

And over 1000 people have already signed the petition demanding the new care home be built as soon as possible.

Community council chairman John Carr said: “For me this is one of the most important issues facing our community at the moment.

“Every other locality in North Lanarkshire has a facility like this and we don’t want to be left behind.

“Building something like this should be a priority. It ticks all the right boxes.”

The backing for the new care facility is not the first time the community council members have made their voices heard on major issues.

Last year, Coltness Communty Council joined forces with their counterparts from Central Wishaw to hand in a 1500 strong petition opposing the hated £ 5 per week community alarm charge.

Political leaders have already thrown their weight behind the campaign.

North Lanarkshire’s SNP and Labour chiefs David Stocks and Jim Logue have signed our petition and committed to building a facility for residents with life-changing injuries such as strokes in the Wishaw area.

Wishaw MP Marion Fellows has also signed up as well as new Central Wishaw councillor Fiona Fotheringham.

John Carr added: “We saw the difference people made during the community alarm fiasco.

“Communities came together for the same cause and that should be the same here.

“I would encourage everyone to get behind this campaign.”

For me, this is one of the most important issues facing our community . . . John Carr
