Keiran mixes it with the big boys

Young racer ignores setback to shine

- Michael Temlett

Wishaw youngster Keiran Grigor has had a successful fortnight.

The minimoto racer was at the Knockhill Circuit in Dunfermline where he managed to pick up a third- place finish despite a dangerous collision.

Keiran collided with a falling rider but managed to dust himself off and finish second, fifth and first in the three Lightweight Class races to secure a third place.

The bike sustained some damage but a week’s worth of hard work had it prepared for the Cumbria Karting Racing Club last weekend.

The 14-year-old was taking part in his first-ever Cool FAB racing event – a competition supported by the British Super Bikes Series.

Keiran had to race in the senior Minimoto Open Group and was the youngest competitor in action but managed to qualify in second.

On Saturday afternoon he held on for a second finish in the opening race before the bad weather hit on Sunday.

With some heavy rain on the track and the wet tyres on the bike, Keiran produced another outstanding second place before making it three in a row.

Keiran received the overall result of second for the weekend and a trophy for his outstanding racing throughout the weekend.

Keiran’s dad Barry said: “Keiran showed great maturity, respect and sportsmanship for the other racers in his group, considering this was his first time getting in the mix with these older guys which he has never raced.”
