It was National Biscuit Day last week in Britain as a new survey revealed the country’s favourite treat.

Viking Direct office supplies carried out a poll in relation to the UK’s favourite type of biscuit and the chocolate chip cookie came out on top.

The cookie finished ahead of Scotland’s very own shortbread in second place, with KitKats making the top three.

We took to the streets to ask our readers what type of treat they enjoyed to go along with their morning tea or coffee.

Mary Smith plumped for a traditional Scottish favourite.

The Carfin woman said: “I would say my favourite biscuit is the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer. You can tell the difference between the cheap ones and the proper ones.”

St Andrew’s Hospice charity chief Rosaleen McKenna opted for one of the nation’s top three.

The Wishaw resident said: “I like a KitKat but you’ve got to eat it finger by finger, that’s the only way.”

Lorna McCafferty added: “I would pick a marshmallow biscuit as my favourite.”

Steven Taylor, pictured with his two-yearold grandson Harvey, agreed with the survey results, whilst revealing that his grandson also enjoys a biscuit.

He said: “I think chocolate chip cookies are my favourite but we buy Toffee Pops for Harvey and he loves them.”
