Primary pupils enjoy the transition day at Taylor High

- Taylor High

Taylor High recently welcomed primary seven pupils from associated and non-associated primary schools for the annual induction days.

All pupils involved gave a very positive evaluation of their experience.

Many thanks to all the staff who worked with the primary seven pupils over the two days through a wide variety of subjects and activities including team-building and health and wellbeing activities.

Thanks also to Father Martin Delaney, school chaplain, for celebrating a special Mass for the school’s soon to be S1 pupils, and to Fiona Cannon, principal teacher of Music, for providing the musical liturgy.

A group of S1 students also helped support the pupils during these days. They were great role models for the primary pupils.

Inter-Disciplinary Days: The school’s S1 pupils took part in an off-timetable interdisciplinary learning day last week.

The focus of the day was how to live in a sustainable way, take care of themselves and the environment.

There were six different curricular areas involved on the day and they delivered a range of activities.

The Religious Education department were involved in planting flowers in the school grounds and will cultivate them throughout the year.

The Social Subjects department was involved in carrying out transport surveys; the PE department created an orienteering activity; the Science department looked at biodiversity and the pupils used quadrats to find out the local distribution of plants and insects in different parts of the school grounds.

Home Economics were involved in healthy food testing, and the English department got creative making anti-litter and recycling adverts.

The weather on the day was a tad rainy but the pupils thoroughly enjoyed participating in the outdoor activities.

Sports: It has been the week for sporting activities at Taylor High. Last week the individual athletics championships from S1 to S3 took the form of a pentathlon with all pupils participating in 100m, 800m, javelin, high jump and hurdles, with the winners still be announced.

Blackpool: Pupils should all now have their letter about this year’s forthcoming Blackpool trip on Thursday, June 22.

Around 300 pupils, who have excellent conduct throughout the year, will enjoy the annual whole school excursion to Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Staff and students are all hoping the weather will hold up for the day so that we all can fully enjoy this much-anticipated event in the school calendar.

Thanks in advance to all staff who will accompany pupils on the trip.
