With Wimbledon set to start this Monday, you don’t have to be a massive tennis fan to get excited for one of sport’s most iconic events.
We took to the streets of Wishaw to ask residents what their favourite event was and what they can’t wait to tune in to.
Jacqueline Chalmers, from Shotts, picked the tennis action from SW19 as her highlight but she admits she doesn’t quite watch as much as she used to.
She said: “I might be showing my age here but I always watched it with the likes of Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe.
“Every year when it comes on I always enjoy watching it but I used to watch it religiously.”
Robert Pollock plumped for a different sport entirely but still selected one of the most iconic sights.
The 80-year-old said: “I’m a big golf fan and I think for me it has to be the Open.
“If you watch the Open at St Andrew’s and the leaders coming down that 18th fairway it’s a treat.”
Cambusnethan man Sandy Bennett believes Wimbledon is the best event as it inspires people.
He said: “You always see youngsters get the tennis racquets out and it’s fun to watch I think it’s the best event.”
Alan Haining said: “I only really watch boxing and football but ask any Motherwell fan and they’ll tell you the greatest event was the Scottish Cup final in 1991.”
