Denies as­sault and driv­ing charges

A man has ap­peared in court ac­cused of as­sault­ing a woman in Wishaw and driv­ing a mo­tor­bike while he was drunk.

James Brad­ford stood in the dock at Hamilton Sher­iff Court and de­nied at­tack­ing Dorothy Boyd in a stair­well in Ste­warton Ter­race on May 24.

It is al­leged that 36-year-old Brad­ford shouted and swore at Ms Boyd be­fore seiz­ing her by the body.

Brad­ford also de­nied driv­ing the mo­tor­cy­cle along Ste­warton Street whilst be­ing over the le­gal drink-drive limit.

The fi­nal two charges Brad­ford pleaded not guilty to was driv­ing the mo­tor­bike with­out a valid li­cence and with­out in­sur­ance.

Sher­iff Ger­ard P MacMil­lan granted Brad­ford, of East­field Road, Car­luke, bail but ordered him to re­turn to court on Septem­ber 7 for a fur­ther hear­ing in the case.

Brad­ford is due to stand trial at Hamilton Sher­iff Court on Oc­to­ber 3.
