One of the worst areas of fly tipping in the centre of Wishaw has been cleaned up only weeks after a special Wishaw Press investigation highlighting the town’s ‘hidden shame’.
In our May 31 edition, we called for urgent action to tackle up to half a dozen drinking and drug dens behind the Main Street.
And the Wishaw Press highlighted the area behind the Cross Keys Inn and former Crown Hotel where the wasteland had some of the worse fly tipping in the town.
The firm that had dumped a huge skip there went into liquidation and now the council have taken swift action to remove it and clear up the rubbish which was attracting large rats to the area.
And the council have vowed to work with their partner agencies to clean up the back courts.
Last month, the Wishaw Press were given a tour of some of the rundown hotspots by Alan Love, the secretary of Central Wishaw Community Council.
Mr Love this week said he welcomed the council’s move to clean up the eyesores across the town.
