Family Centre’s glowing report

- Michael Temlett

Craigneuk Family Learning Centre received a glowing report after a recent inspection.

Education Scotland carried out the visit and followed up on results published last year which highlighted areas for improvement.

These included further improving the quality of learning and improving the curriculum for children whilst establishing effective self-evaluation to improve outcomes for youngsters.

The latest inspection shows the Glasgow Road centre has met the targets and has outlined one area for continued improvement which is to demonstrate more clearly that there are improved outcomes for children and families.

Cathy Sweeney, Head of Craigneuk Family Learning Centre, said: “The staff at the centre were delighted with the recent Education Scotland Report.

“It was reassuring when Education Scotland recognised the commitment, dedication and high standard of practice developed within Craigneuk Family Learning Centre.

“We will continue to build on this success as we work together with children, families and the community to improve the quality of how we deliver our childcare and education within the community.

“I would like to thank all the children, parents and staff for their contribution towards the inspection.

“We had a very high number of questionnaire returns and face to face interviews which was an excellent way to share with the inspectors all the progress over the last year, the whole team values these efforts.”

Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig councillor Nathan Wilson praised the centre, adding: “I was delighted to attend the Craigneuk Family Learning Centre’s garden celebration a couple of weeks ago and witness first hand, the excellent work that is being carried out.

“The Centre has become a huge asset for the local community and the staff deserve great credit for all that they have achieved.

“I would encourage all families with young kids from the area to make use of the new and impressive outdoor learning facility.”

Sandra Kehoe, HM Inspector from Education Scotland, concluded: “The setting has made important progress in a number of areas since the original inspection. More time is now required to achieve a more permanent team of practitioners.”
