Wishaw duo’s top show at Raceland Grigor and Maguire put in great performances
Two Wishaw minimoto racers were in action last weekend at the UK Championships.
And both finished the day well in the hunt for a title after the third round of the event at Raceland near Edinburgh.
All racers benefitted from a dry track but that did not stop thrills and spills throughout the day.
Wishaw’s Keiran Grigor picked up two second places and a first in the three races in the Lightweight group, holding onto an overall second in the class.
In the Open Class races, the 14-year-old finished third in the opening race before picking up two seventh-place finishes.
Cambusnethan youngster Ross Maguire was also in action in Edinburgh, after missing round two with a double break in his collarbone.
The 12-year-old qualified second in the Aircooled Junior B and Featherweight classes.
In the aircooled races, Ross picked up two seconds and a first, finishing second overall for the day.
Maguire was not as fortunate in the featherweight races as his bike suffered clutch problems and was down on power.
Despite this, the Cambusnethan youngster still managed to get two second place finishes, ending third overall after having to withdraw from one race.
In the opening two Adult Open class races, Ross’ bad luck continued as he was involved in two crashes but managed to bounce back both times to finish the race.
In the final two races, Ross picked up two runners-up sports, finishing third overall for the day.
The racing action followed on from a successful outing in the British minibike championship.
Ross leads the British Aircooled Pro and sits second in the Liquid Cooled event.
Ross’ dad David said: “After breaking his collarbone at the first round of the UK Championship and missing the second round due to his injury his hopes of lifting a trophy in this years championship look very slim.
“Ross’ main focus is now on the British championship and also racing his big bikes in the remaining 125cc championship rounds at Knockhill.
“Despite this Ross will continue to race in the remaining UK rounds to keep himself sharp on the Minimotos.
“His results at the weekend were not too bad considering all the crashes and bike problems.”
The next round of racing in the British minibike championship is in three weeks time at Redlodge in Suffolk.
