Boyle’s Brit test

Adam Boyle finished his Schools athletics career on a high winning his fourth consecutiv­e national title.

The Our Lady’s High pupil set a new personal best in the senior weight javelin by throwing 54.4 metres.

Boyle then went on to the UK under 20 Championsh­ips last Saturday and took on Britain’s best.

Throwing the heavier 8 gram javelin - which was part-funded by Victoria Park AC – the Motherwell youngster produced yet another personal best of 62.44 metres in Bedford.

His top effort in the final round was enough to grab the bronze at the UK Championsh­ips.

The thrower is a member of the successful Tommy Boyle athletics squad who train at Wishaw Sports Centre.

The youngster is coached by former Commonweal­th Games javelin competitor Karen Costello and she praised Boyle for his efforts.

Karen said:“Adam has worked extremely hard throughout the winter months and is now reaping the benefits.

“It was a fantastic measure of Adam’s ability, he’s still in the first year of the age group and this performanc­e demonstrat­es his ability to compete under pressure and bodes well for the rest of the season.”
