Allanton Parish Church service, Discovery club and creche will be held in the church on Sunday at 12.30pm. All welcome. Mothers’ and toddlers’ group meets in the church hall on Tuesday mornings at 9.30am. Karate class is held in the hall on Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm. Street dance classes are held in the church hall on Thursday evenings from 6pm to 7pm and 7pm to 8pm. Youth group meets in the Senior Citizens Centre on Friday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. Allanton Jolly Beggars Burns Club was founded in the Damside Inn Allanton 60 years ago and in this diamond anniversar­y year the club celebrated with a dinner in the Radstone Hotel. There was a parade of presidents and the main speakers were Baroness Annabel Goldie and Alasdair Hutton. The chairman for the evening was club president Murdo Morrison who had the backing of an organising committee of four including vice-president Lesley McDonald, secretary Helen Morrison and treasurer Alan Scherr. John Campbell past president of Fauldhouse and Crofthead Burns Club recited Tam O Shanter – a real favourite of Burns Clubs and Jamie Donnelly president of Greenock recited “A mans a man for a’ that”. Hazel Blair an honorary member of Allanton and Larkhall a leading singer of Burns and other songs entertaine­d the capacity audience. Piper Amy McIntyre led the procession of top table guests and during the evening the brother and sister duo of Cameron and Zoe May from Lesmahagow gave a Pipe and Drum March Strathspey and Reel.
