Three groups were this week celebrating after being awarded grants of more than £ 900 from Asda Newmains.

Wi s haw Wycombe Wanderers, St Brigid’s Lunch Club in Newmains and Law Primary’s Nursery Class have all received funds from the Asda Green Token Given scheme.

All the groups have received their funding thanks to the help of Asda Newmains’ dedicated community champion Mary Gilfillan.

Mary said: “We are honoured to be able to continually support charity groups from across the Wishaw area.

“At Asda, we’re always thrilled when customers nominated charities close to them to be in with the chance of benefitting from these vital funding boosts.

“We couldn’t be happier showing our appreciation by helping as much as we can with these latest donations and raising awareness of the hard work done by all groups.”

Wi s haw Wycombe Wanderers received £ 500 as part of the scheme while St Brigid’s and Law Primary each received £200.

Wi s haw Wycombe Wanderers are an SFAaccredited football club with juvenile teams for boys and girls from under -six to under-21s and both Saturday and Sunday amateur teams.

The amateur football club has been running in Wishaw since 1994.

John Murdoch, club secretary at Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers, added: “The entire team at Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers would like to thank Asda Newmains for this incredibly generous donation.

“Charitable grants and donations are vital in helping us continue the work we do and helping support as many local people as possible.

“The £500 donation from the Asda Foundation is greatly appreciated and will be a huge help to us. It is also a bonus to know that we are supported by members of the wider local community too.”
