Call them for fab charity fun

Ghostbusters raising cancer cash

- Michael Temlett

When you need to raise money for charity, who are you gonna call?

The North Lanarkshire Ghostbusters raised £470 for Cancer Research UK as friends Ciaran Yuill and Cailan Thompson completed two loops of Strathclyde Park.

The walk was braved by Wishaw’s Ciaran in memory of his aunt Betty Yuill and he was thrilled with the final total.

Ciaran’s girlfriend’s gran, Maria, is battling breast cancer and the Wishaw man was keen to do something different.

They opted to follow in the footsteps of the much-loved Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray, the stars of the 1984 film.

Ciaran said: “There are loads of fundraising groups who dress up as Marvel characters.

“We’re big fans of Ghostbusters so thought we’d go for the sponsored walk around Strathclyde Park and it took us about two hours but was well worth it.

“We wanted to be the first who were Ghostbusters and when we were walking round we had a lot of people who were wanting to know what was going on.

“It’s not something you see every day so we could understand why plenty people were staring!

“But when they asked us why we were dressed like Ghostbusters a lot of people donated which was great.

“We chose Cancer Research because it’s something which means a lot to us and so many people have been affected by cancer.

“We were walking in memory of my Aunt Betty but also to support people like my girlfriend’s gran, Maria, and everyone who is battling cancer.”
