The club has been raising money for charity since 1984, and in that time has raised an incredible £300,000 for local, district and Scottish charities. The good people of Shotts and their many sponsors should be very proud, as well as Shotts Golf Club. The club has also helped many young professionals since that time and are also very proud of their achievements. However, it has become increasingly difficult, financially, for the club to continue to do so and the members wish them well in the future. This year the focus will solely be on the charities Lanarkshire Cancer Care and Maggie’s, Coatbridge, two worthy and essential organisations. This year’s event will be an all amatuer event, Am/Am rather than Pro/Am with all the usual raffles and prizes. As a special feature, there will also be the chance to win a car with a hole in one at the 16th hole. A change to the golf rules several years ago means amateurs can now accept the car for a hole in one in golf. More details will be published in this column over the next few weeks, but in the meantime, the members would like to thank everyone for their continued support and generosity.
