Trio on assault and weapons charges

- Court reporter

Three people are set to stand trial later this month accused of carrying offensive weapons in a Carfin street and assaulting a teenager while she was pregnant.

Brian Thomson appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week while his two co-accused Alistair Nichol and Nicole McCallum were both absent from the dock.

Thomson, 21, and 22-year-old Nichol are both accused of behaving in a threatening manner on July 15 in Motherwell Road, Carfin, by shouting, swearing, uttering threats of violence and brandishing pieces of wood as well as having offensive weapons with them.

Thomson also allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old girl while she was pregnant by pushing her on the body.

McCallum is also accused of assaulting the then pregnant teenager, who can’t be named for legal reasons, in Motherwell Road by seizing her by her clothing and pulling her to the ground.

The 19-year-old also allegedly attacked another woman by seizing her by the hair, pulling her to the ground and repeatedly punching and kicking her on the body.

The final two charges against McCallum are that she allegedly repeatedly shouted, swore, uttered threats of violence and brandished a glass bottle as well as having an offensive weapon with her.

In court last week, Thomson, of Community Road, Bellshill, denied all the charges against him.

However, bail was refused and he was remanded in custody ahead of the trial which is set to take place on August 25.

A further hearing in the case is scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday).

Due to their nonappearance in court, warrants were granted for Nichol and McCallum, both of Spruce Way, Holytown.
