Education chiefs praise sterling

Across the Wishaw area, teenagers were finding out if they had managed to gain enough Higher passes to get into their chosen university.

Examinatio­n results for S5 and S6 pupils continued to improve with pupils achieving three or more Higher passes rising to 32.8 per cent those gaining five or more awards standing at 12.4 per cent.

The council’s education convener Frank McNally said: “These results show the difference that can be made when schools work in collaborat­ion for the benefit of all. This will definitely improve the life chances of our young people in helping them to secure positive leaver destinatio­ns.

“I would like to pay tribute to the staff for providing high quality learning and teaching and to the parents and carers who support their young people.

“I also would like to acknowledg­e the hard work and commitment of our pupils in achieving these results.

“Any pupil who did not receive their desired results should not be despondent.

“I encourage them to contact their school where teachers are available to give advice and support and discuss all options to help them going forward.”

The S6 results at Higher and Advanced Higher level show a similar trend.
