Soup and sweet event The popular monthly soup and sweet events have now been finalised in the town for the next few months. The first event will taken place on Saturday, September 16, with the ladies of the United Reform Church offering their home made soups and sweets, as well as their home made tablet which is always a big favourite. Forthcomin­g attraction­s will include a special October Saturday event with the first of these due to take place at the church on October 21. A new gift stall will be held in the church on November 19, and this will open each month from 11.30am until 1.30pm. The ladies at the church hope that everyone will put these dates in their diaries, where they will be assured a warm welcome. Week-day service The regular weekday service held in St John’s Church on Thursday morning of last week was conducted by Phillip Fox. All the members of the congregati­on enjoyed his thoughtful message of the day and again rapturousl­y sang their favourite hymns which had been chosen especially to complete the service. Many of them then moved on to the church hall to attend their favourite kettle’s on event, where they enjoyed a tea or coffee, served up with a slice of cake. Once again, a warm welcome is given to all attend this morning session which begins in the church each week at 10.30am. Strawberry coffee morning A strawberry coffee morning will be held in the United Reform Church on Saturday of this week. This special fundraisin­g event is being organised by the Clydesdale Community Activities Cancer Care Group, and doors will open at 10.30am. There will be a host of delicious sandwiches available on the day which will be served alongside teas and coffees. There will also be a wide selection of individual­ly priced desserts and cakes available on a separate menu at each table. The event will be open on Saturday from 10.30am until 3pm. All are welcome to attend. Day centre Members of Carluke Day Centre closed their current session with an enjoyable tea dance on Friday of last week which was attended by over 80 of the members, who spent the day dancing to their favourite sounds. The centre will reopen as usual in two weeks time on Monday, August 28. However, some of the members are also looking forward to their holiday break in Lytham St Anne’s later this week, as well as their forthcomin­g coach trip to Pitlochry on their return on Tuesday, August 22. The winners of last week’s games afternoon were as follows: whist - Robert Angus, J Stewart and M Mitchell. The centre will resume all its normal activities on Monday, August 28. Charity coffee morning St John’s Church hall is sure to be a busy venue on Saturday of this week when it hosts a special fundraisin­g coffee morning, in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie. Members of the congregati­on have planned this big event to raise money for the hospice’s renovation fund. Doors open at 10am on the day and
