Rovers suffer first defeat

-

Gartcairn Juniors .. 3 Carluke Rovers ..... 0 Carluke Rovers marked their first competitive defeat of the season as Gartcairn Juniors put three past them.

Colin Slater’s side created very few chances in an uncharacteristic performance from the Carluke outfit.

It took until six minutes for the hosts to take the lead when goalkeeper Reece Murray brought Mark Tait who picked himself up and slotted home the spot-kick.

And Tait was the man of the moment when he netted a second on 16 minutes with another penalty awarded by the referee following some calamitous defending.

One of Carluke’s only chances came from a Reece Lowdon pot shot from outside the area but it did not trouble the Gartcairn stopper.

Rovers had it all to do in the second half but they started a bit brighter when Sam Biggart headed inches wide of the post from a corner.

The introduction of Stuart Mitchell gave Rovers a new lease of life and he played in James Martin but his cutback across goal was cleared.

The scoring was completed 10 minutes from time when Rovers failed to clear a corner and the ball was forced home by Paul McVeigh.

Rovers will now start their season away to Newmains United in a local derby with kick-off at 2pm at Victoria Park. Follow @Carlukeroversfc on Twitter for more.
