Guides and Scouts The new session of the Guides, Scouts groups and Boys’ Brigade sections resume in St John’s Church this week. The 3rd Carluke Boys’ Brigade will hold an enrolment night on Friday, from 6pm to 7pm, followed by the Junior sections, and Company section. All new and regular boys will be welcomed. Day Centre The Carluke Day Centre has resumed with a games afternoon planned on Thursday, and easy dancing sessions on Friday afternoons. New dates and details can be obtained by contacting Mary on 01555 772214. Craft club will start in St Andrews Church hall next Wednesday, September 6, between 7pm and 9pm. All are welcome to come along and try out a new hobby. A new singing group will begin in the church hall on September 27, starting with a tea morning, from 11.30am to 1pm. It will be a great start to the new winter session. Trekkers The trekkers group will take part in the first walk of their new session this Saturday, September 2. The group leave St John’s Church at 9am prompt and will travel to Mauchline and Catrine - a flat linear walk of approximat­ely nine miles duration which can be very muddy in places, and waterproof boots are recommende­d. Mid-week service The mid-week service held in St John’s Church on Thursday of last week was led by popular speaker, Ms Sandra Peat. She once again enthralled the members of the congregati­on with another of her interestin­g stories, which was followed by all the congregati­on singing two of their favourite hymns. Afterwards, everyone met in the church hall to enjoy tea, coffee and cakes which Sandra had brought along to tempt their taste buds. The ladies and gentlemen of the Kettle’s On club sincerely thanked all who had contribute­d to their recent charity event, held in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice on Saturday of last week, where £2558 had been raised. They also reminded all present of their next charity bag packing event taking place in Tesco’s Carluke store next Saturday, September 9, where they hoped to see all their friends coming along. St Athanasius Parish The Celebrate Scotland organisati­on have organised a weekend for families to celebrate their faith. This year’s theme will be ‘Seek first his kingdom’, and the meeting will take place in St Ninians’ High School, Giffnock on Saturday and Sunday of this week. St Athanasius’ Girls’ Club for girls in the P3 to P7 age group meets in the parish hall every Wednesday evening, from 7.15pm to 8.30pm. Entrance cost £1. There will be fun and games for all with a tuck shop also available on the night. 1st Carluke Company Girls’ Brigade resumes their regular meetings in Kirkton Church hall next Thursday, September 7. The sections will meet as follows: Explorers P1 to P3, from 6pm to 7pm, Juniors P4 to P7, from 6pm to 7.30pm, and Brigaders S1 to S6, between 7.15pm and 9.30pm. All girls are welcome. St John’s Church will held their family Olympics event at the town’s Moor Park on Saturday of last week. The event was attended by many families from the church on a lovely, sunny afternoon with many of the races held, including a sack race, three-legged event, egg and spoon, flat and relay races, with a final tug of war event to end the festivitie­s on the field. The day concluded with refreshmen­ts served at the church, as well as a medal ceremony. A great afternoon was had by all and everyone hopes that this will now be an annual event on the church calendar. An evening of praise service was held in St John’s Church on Sunday of last week, featuring guest speaker Margaret Tooth, Blythswood Care’s area fundraisin­g manager for South and Central Scotland. The evening was highlighte­d with a performanc­e from the talented members of the Grace Notes Choir. Communion services will taken place in both Kirkton and St John’s churches on Sunday of this week, starting at 11am.

Bonkle

Bonkle Parish Church service, Sunday school and creche will be back to normal in the church this Sunday, at the usual time of 12 noon. Speak to the minister if you know of anyone who requires a pastoral visit. Charity shop at Manse Road, Newmains is open Monday to Thursday, from 9.30am to 3.30pm. Food bank thanks everyone for their continued support and is open in the village on Wednesday at 1pm. Computer classes are held in Bonkle Church hall on Mondays, from 10am to 11.30am, 1pm to 2.30pm, and from 2.30pm to 4pm. Arts classes will be held in the large church hall on Ton Tuesdays, from 7pm to 9pm. New members are welcome to come and join in at this friendly and welcoming group. Men’s and ladies club meets in the church hall on Wednesday, from 7pm to 9pm. All welcome. Thursday club meets in the church hall each Thursday afternoon, at 2pm. Struthers Memorial Church will now hold its Christian Outreach meetings in the Old Gospel Hall on Bonkle Road, Newmains, every Wednesday, at 7.30pm. For more informatio­n, contact 07919 926795.

Carfin

The Holy Ghost Fathers (Spiritans) are holding a car boot sale in Carfin Church hall this Saturday, September 2. Those wishing to reserve a place in the compound should call 01698 290831. There will also be arts and crafts stalls available in the hall. All welcome.

Overtown

Overtown Parish Church morning service in the church this Sunday will be held at 11am. The OK Club and B Club Seven will meet in the church hall at 10.50am until 12 noon. Kids enjoy a mixture of stories, games, singing. crafts, painting and drawing. Old and new members welcome. For more informatio­n, contact K Crichton on 01698 360580. There will be a creche for younger children. All visitors to the church will be made most welcome. Line dancing class continues in the church hall this afternoon, with the beginners’ and refreshers’ class at 12.30pm, followed by the main class from 1.15pm until 2.45pm. All ages and abilities will be made welcome. Friendship group are continuing with their Monday lunch club in the small church hall from 12 noon until 1.30pm.
