Classical act are on song with theatre gig
Classical stars Blake are to bring a touch of silver screen magic to Lanarkshire next month.
The crossover harmony boy band will be at the Village Theatre in East Kilbride on Saturday, September 30.
The Songs of Stage & Screen tour sees the trio perform music by the likes of Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone, Leonard Bernstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Leonard Cohen, The Beach Boys and many more. At each show the boys enlist the help of a local choir, giving them the chance to perform to packed theatres, and bringing the community together through music, while they have projections and lighting to help recreate the feel of the big screen.
The tour follows appearances alongside the sensational Dame Shirley Bassey, with whom they released a Christmas single last December.
The single featured on their festive album A Classic Christmas in aid of children’s charities Variety and Noah’s Ark Hospice.
Blake - made up of Ollie Baines, Stephen Bowman and Humphrey Berney - have an impressive CV of achievements including several No 1 albums, multi-platinum selling albums and over 150 TV appearances, as well as having won a Brit Award for Album of the Year.
Famous fans include Keira Knightly, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and Will Smith, while the trio tour constantly, including as far afield as the Philippines, South Korea, Barbados and Russia. They take part in a vast amount of charity work, from performing for the Queen and Prince Harry at the Festival of Remembrance and the launch of the Walking With The Wounded South Pole Challenge to working with the ‘Sing to Beat Breast Cancer’ Choir.
And the lads were easily spotted last Christmas, when they were one of the star turns on the BBC’s ‘David Walliams celebrates Dame Shirley Bassey’ special programme.
The members of Blake all found their love of music at a young age and sang with various groups and choirs throughout their childhood.
Their passion for music continues to grow and they wanted to share this with the communities they would be visiting on their tour, which is why local choirs are taking part.
Their gig in East Kilbride will start at 7.30pm.Tickets are £20.
