Carluke keep up 100 per cent record

-

Carluke Rovers ..... 2 Ashfield ................ 1 Carluke Rovers made it two wins out of two in a hard fought win over Ashfield on Saturday.

Goals from Ian Watt and Mark Cassidy kept Colin Slater’s side joint top of the league after a promising start to the campaign.

Carluke created the first chance 10 minutes in when Mark Weir played the ball forward for Watt but his effort cruised over the bar.

Watt tested the keeper moments later after cutting in the Ashfield box but he could not break the deadlock.

The stalemate was broken 29 minutes in when a perfect ball forward from Weir saw Watt allow the ball to drop over his shoulder before he volleyed it in for the opener.

Rovers doubled their lead before half time when Reece Lowdon found Cassidy who drove into the box and drove the ball low into the net.

Ashfield created a nervy last 10 minutes for the hosts, however, as they found a way back into the game.

Veteran Paul Maxwell won a powerful header in the box which collided with the woodwork and bounced down over the line despite a desperate clearance from David Thomson.

Rovers held out, however, for another three points.
