Fearless Fir Parkers can get top six

Motherwell boss Robinson wants Moult to stay after more heroics on Saturday (left)

Motherwell defender Charles Dunne admits the key to the Steelmen’s success has been playing without fear.

The 24-year-old has settled in well to life at Fir Park and admits he is having the time of his life with the current squad.

But Dunne is adamant Motherwell can end the year in the top half — as they don’t fear anyone in the division.

Speaking after a 2-1 win over Hearts on Saturday, when asked if top six was the target, the former Wycombe Wanderers stopper said: “Of course.

“Personally we don’t fear anyone in this league and if we go out there and play our best, I don’t see why we can’t beat anyone.

“It’s a good team with good players and people in England think the level of Scottish football isn’t that great but it is and I’m really enjoying it.

“It’s not a surprise for me how we’ve started.

“The gaffer knows what he’s doing and he thinks long and hard about the players he brings in and the type of characters.

“I’ve heard it’s a lot different from last year but we’ve just got to keep carrying it on.

“There’s no point getting excited after two wins because Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson admits they will be lucky to hold on to Louis Moult as transfer deadline day looms.

The Steelmen striker netted his 40th goal in only 73 appearances on the weekend as he lifted Well to a win over Hearts.

However, Moult is not the only concern ahead of this Thursday’s transfer window, with Chris Cadden a Cardiff target and Ben Heneghan attracting interest from Sunderland and Queen’s Park Rangers.

Robinson reiterated his stance on Moult and urged him to join in with Well’s rebuilding.

He said:“I want Louis to stay. He’s said he won’t sign at this stage. He hasn’t said he won’t sign completely.

“Financially, we may not be able to dictate that, but I feel we are building something decent here.”

there’s about 40 games to go. There’s some good characters in the dressing room but obviously you’ve got the more experienced pros as well.

“Mick (Stephen McManus) is always speaking to the defenders and everyone respects him a lot because he’s had such a good career.

“We can’t take our foot off the pedal and we have to keep trying to improve as a team.”

Dunne also believes that the interest in Steelmen players such as Louis Moult and Chris Cadden is a compliment to how well the club have been doing.

However, he is hopeful the club can hold on to their prized assets as he insisted the Steelmen do not worry about any relegation battles.

She said:“Good players attract interest but that’s football.

“Hopefully the club can keep them here and we can carry on and have a successful season.

“To me it’s no surprise because we’ve got good players doing well and teams are going to come and look at them.

“We just want to finish as high as possible and there won’t be any relegation stuff last year. “Everything is positive from our camp.” Motherwell are back in league action on Saturday, September 9 at home to Kilmarnock.
