Residents fear street is a potential death trap

Call for traffic calming in Coltness street

-

Allanton Grove it’s like playing Russian Roulette.

“A smash like last week’s should serve as a wake up call for the council.

“I can’t believe they have to wait until there is a serious accident or a death to do something about it.

“We, as a community council, want to see something done about this.”

Previously North Lanarkshire Council insisted that there were no plans to install traffic calming measures on North Dryburgh Road or neighbouring Dryburgh Road.

However, C o u n c i l l o r McManus said: “Thankfully there was no severe injuries but the council have to take this as a warning.

“It’s wake up call and we have to make sure something is put in place before anything serious happens.”

A council spokeswoman said the local authority would review the information from Police Scotland about this particular incident.

The spokeswoman added: “The council receives a large number of requests for traffic calming measures across the area, and we have to prioritise the resources available to where these will deliver the greatest benefit.

“Like most UK local authorities, we review Police Scotland accident data regularly to identify where there have been the most injury accidents.

“We then prioritise those locations for improvement works to try to improve road safety. This approach has proved successful with a long-term reduction in road casualties.”
