£50k haul in cocaine raid

- Ross Thomson

Police swooped on a house in Coltness and recovered over £ 50,000 worth of cocaine.

Officers from the Alcohol and Violence Reduction Unit and the Local Problem Solving Team swooped on the house in Buchan Street on August 24.

The homeowner was not at the property but police discovered approximately 1.6 kilos of the class A drug.

They also seized over £ 11,000 in cash from the property.

Police arrested a 30-yearold man last Wednesday and he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court the following day, accused of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

The huge haul is one of a number of major drug discoveries in the Wishaw area over the past few months.

In May officers discovered over £ 140,000 worth of amphetamines in a car in Greenfield Drive, Cambusnethan.

A 27-year-old man from the Wishaw area was arrested.

At the start of 2017 cocaine worth £ 58,000 was seized from a Craigneuk house.

Officers raided the house in Golfhill Road on suspicion that drugs were being sold there. They discovered the huge haul of cocaine plus 1000 diazepam tablets.

Police say more than £150,000 of illegal drugs was taken off the streets of Wishaw and the surrounding area in 2016.

Huge hauls of cocaine and cannabis were seized in Wishaw, Shotts and Cleland.
