Action points drawn up after walking streets

Community council list important issues

- Michael Temlett

A walk around Craigneuk carried out by the community council raised several issues.

Craigneuk Community Council chair Margaret Carlin led the walk through the streets where they looked at various issues brought up by residents.

The group, who are holding their next meeting at the Jim Foley Community Centre on Monday, September 18, noted various issues throughout the walk.

Amongst these include the Flaxmill Avenue property which was reported in last month’s Wishaw Press as being repossessed.

There were also the following issues, a Facebook post by Margaret Carlin included:

Old Police station - looking to get details to contact owner again regarding clearing gardens.

Overhanging trees/bushes – looking at having these cut down and cut back.

Overflowing/contaminated bins – suggested letters should be sent to tenants.

Overflow pipes damaging walls – contractor will look at cleaning the walls.

Blocked drains causing ponding – look at having the drains cleared.

Road Surface - some areas the road surfaces are in a bad state of repair.

At a recent Craigneuk Community Council meeting residents feared they were being ‘left out’ with their voices not being heard.

Neil Murray said: “It’s like the council are forgetting about Craigneuk.

“We see other areas getting help with various problems but we seemed to have been put to the back of the line.”

Secretary Margaret Ann Murray vowed to arrange a meeting with the council to address various issues.

She said: “I think it’s important we set up a meeting with various heads of departments so we can have our voice heard.”

Councillor Alan Valentine added: “We always listen to the concerns of the community council and we’ll do anything we can to help but we can only take certain issues so far.”
