Camera Club Friday evening of last week saw the first autumn meeting of Carluke Camera Club after their summer break. The meeting was well attended and included many longtime members as well as a significant number of new members. The club prides itself on catering for members with all ranges of ability, from beginners for whom a series of meetings on basic skills has been planned. The club are now celebrating their 40th anniversary, having been founded in 1977. It is a much-respected name in British photographic circles and has regularly represented Scotland at the national championships. The club hopes that, by encouraging and promoting photography as a hobby to its members and the wider community, it will benefit the community by providing a vibrant club within its midst. The syllabus of meetings includes a mixture of speakers, in-house and high-profile guests, competitions and social events. In addition, to the normal Friday club nights, workshops are organised for members of all levels of skill, including complete beginners. The club also has special interest groups for topics including audio visual, portraiture, and nature. Meetings are held in St Andrew’s Church hall in Mount Stewart Street on Fridays, at 7.30pm. Shine Youth Theatre will present their next production of the popular musical “Annie” in Motherwell Concert Hall starting next Tuesday, September 12. For weeks the cast have been rehearsing at their Lighthouse studio to bring the musical extravaganza to their audiences. There are still a few tickets remaining for the show, and these are available by calling the Shine booking office on 07519154907. Soup and sweet lunch will next held at the United Reform Church on Saturday, September 23, and not as previously advertised. The ladies look forward to welcoming back their regulars and any new visitors to this popular Saturday event, which will begin on the Saturday, from 11.30am to 1.30pm. Day Centre Daily activities resumed at the centre last week, following a lovely holiday and day trip which was enjoyed by the members. The winners of the games afternoon were: whist - B Muir, M Penman and B Wright; dominoes - F Hill, D Boyd and T Scobie. The members are looking forward to their next trip to Perth on Tuesday, September 12, which will leave the Crown at 10am prompt, with seats still available. The Jolly Beggars will be providing entertainment and afternoon tea in the Lifestyle Centre on Thursday, September 28. Bingo sessions will resume in the Masonic Hall on Monday nights where local residents can enjoy refreshments with friends and a few games of bingo. People can also take part in the Joker and obtain tickets for the many prize bingo events scheduled over the next few months. Doors open at 6.30pm and all will be made welcome. Church news Kirkton Church’s coffee club resumed on Tuesday of this week and the volunteers hope to welcome all to their new session. Come along and have tea and delicious home baking, and enjoy the fellowship. The event is open every Tuesday morning, from 10am to 12 noon.
