Maguire bounces back from knee injury

Two more join Well as transfer window closes

-

Despite damaging his cartilage in his knee one week earlier, Ross Maguire was back on his bike at the British Championships on Saturday.

The Ca m b u s n e t ha n youngster bounced back from the disappointment of missing out on a place in the British Talent Cup to hold on to his lead in the Aircooled class and sit second in the Liquid cooled.

The Coltness High pupil managed two third place finishes and a fourth in the Liquid minimoto races – securing third overall.

In the Aircooled class, Ross finished fourth in the first race but was in tears due to pain in his knee.

However, he had treatment after the race and jumped back on his bike to finish first in the second race before ending the day with a fourth place finish.

Ross’ dad David said: “It wasn’t Ross’s best results of the season but he battled through the pain barrier and although he lost points, he still leads the Aircooled championship and is second in the Liquid cooled championship.

“Ross will now take a few weeks off to rest and heal before the next race which is September weekend in North Wales.” Motherwell rounded off a super summer transfer window on and off the park with two more signings.

After netting more than £1million thanks to deals for Ben Heneghan and a sell-on clause from Marvin Johnson’s move to Middlesborough, Peter Hartley and Liam Grimshaw both put pen to paper for the Fir Park side.

The overhaul in the squad meant 14 players joined the Steelmen with more than 15 going the other way.

Grimshaw is no stranger to life at Fir Park, having had a loan spell under Mark McGhee and he admits that was a big reason behind his return to the club. He said:“That was one of the major factors behind me moving because I played up here before and really enjoyed it.

“It helps if you know a place to settle in.

“It’s been frustrating the past couple of years not playing as much as I’ve wanted to but I’ve got more experience now from playing games in the Championship.

“It’s not ideal when it’s last minute but you’ve got to get on with it and luckily it’s all sorted now.

“I’m really excited and I’ve kept a close eye on results so I’m happy to be back.”

Defender Peter

Hartley has signed a one-year loan deal from Blackpool and he hopes to use his experience to guide Well to a successful campaign.

He said:“I’ve played two hundred games in League One – this is just a different opportunity.

“I’m looking forward to getting going.

“This team are good enough to make the top six and after back-to-back wins, hopefully we can keep the momentum going.”
