Family mark milestone birthday with charity bash
A Wishaw family are getting ready to celebrate their tragic daughter’s 30th birthday in style – 18 months after she lost her brave battle with cancer.
Today marks what would have been mum- of- one Donna McWhinnie’s milestone birthday, and her family are determined to make it one to remember.
Donna fought brain cancer for three years and sadly passed last March.
Now her loved ones are marking the special birthday with a party ‘Donna style’ to raise money for St Andrew’s Hospice where she spent her final days.
The 30th birthday bash is being held in Rival’s Gym on Roberts Street this Saturday night.
Organisers have promised to make it a night that guests won’t forget and 185 tickets have already been sold.
Donna’s sister Lisa Neilson said: “Our wee yin loved a party. We wanted to do something that we knew Donna would love and this type of thing would have been right up her street.
“She loved getting dressed up and going out with her friends, so it will be great to see everyone who was close to her coming together to mark this special day.”
There will be live music, a silent disco, a photobooth, DJ’s, a raffle and auction with prizes including signed football memorabilia, a tour of Ibrox, meal and shopping vouchers, up for grabs.
Donna, mum to beloved sonTaylor, was first diagnosed with a grade two giloma, a tumour half the size of her brain, in February 2013.
She underwent six weeks of intense radiotherapy at the Beatson Cancer Centre. She was then given the good news in August that year that the cancerous cells had been destroyed and the tumour was inactive.
However, Donnae was later informed by doctors that the intense treatment on her tumour was not working and her cancer was terminal.
Lisa added: “We all miss Donna more every day. It doesn’t get any easier.
“Organising these type of keeps us occupied and helps keep her memory alive.”
