Transplant games athletes pop by to say big thanks to Provost
Athletes from Team Lanarkshire visited the Civic Centre to present Provost Jean Jones with a special pennant to thank both her and council staff for the successful hosting of this summer’s British Transplant Games.
The team won medals in archery, swimming, javelin, long jump, 100m, 200m, darts, ten pin bowling, fishing, shot-putt, discus, mini marathon, basketball and also took part in the donor run.
Karen Casey, Team Lanarkshire manager, said:“The games were a huge success and I know people from all over the UK who were hugely impressed with the professional way in which they were organised.
“It was the first time that a team from Lanarkshire had entered the games and we’re already looking forward to taking part in next year’s British Transplant Games, which are being held in Birmingham.
“We were delighted to present the provost with our pendant and honoured that she was able to meet some of our excellent medal winners.”
Provost Jones said:“It was great to welcome members of Team Lanarkshire to the Civic Centre to congratulate them on their achievements – their success made the games all the more special and it was wonderful to hear their stories and how much they’d all enjoyed taking part.”
Team Lanarkshire are actively fundraising for next year’s British Transplant Games and have a musical extravaganza planned on the November 11 at 8pm. It is being held in Club100 in Motherwell.
