Me a n w h i l e, Nor th Lanarkshire Council are carrying out a feasibility study on the possibility of removing high restrictions at the Bellside Bridge on the A73 following a number of HGV’s and lorries crashing into the bridge and causing traffic disruption.
Earlier this y e a r, community councillors also said they believed Omoa Road was “the worst” for speeding drivers in the whole of Cleland.
Councillor Roarty added: “Ideally we need Bellside and Biggar Road re-classified as B roads and we could have speed bumps on them. It would also take traffic away from the village.
“The council are working on the feasibility study so we will wait and see what the findings are. But what we really need are drivers to slow down and obey the speed limit.”
Fe l l ow Murdostoun c o u n c i l l o r Cameron McManus said: “The issue of speeding drivers has always been a problem in Cleland.
“Kids are walking to both primary schools every day and drivers are still not reducing their speed. At Omoa Road people just drive straight through the roundabout.
“I think it is mostly drivers passing through the village but we still need them to slow down.”
We have had a number of near misses and we don’t want anyone being killed
