Pupils give teachers a lesson in bowling

-

Coltness High pupils bowled over their teachers with their skills on the greens of Wishaw Bowling Club.

Pupils Lewis Houston, Jade Muir, Lauren Watson and Callum Millar took on headteacher John McGilp, senior technician Gordon Coutts, PT Pupil Support staff David MacPherson and Morven McAndrew in a series of matches.

In the end, the pupils were undefeated, winning two matches and drawing the others in a comprehensive 30-15 win.

One of the wins included an 8-0 whitewash of Mr McGilp and Mr MacPherson.

After the match, staff team captain Gordon Coutts said: “We look forward to taking on the pupils again when the green opens again in April 2018 but I’ll be opening up the search for team members.

“There surely must be two members of staff who are better than McGilp and MacPherson - it wouldn’t be hard!

“All I can say is thank goodness that Scott McLaren, the school’s Lanarkshire under-18 champion, was away on a university visit today or this could have been embarrassing!”

The pupils and staff would like to thank Wishaw Bowling Club for hosting the match and for their hospitality after the game.

It is hoped that the bowling date is something that could become a bi-annual fixture on the school calendar, with them already looking at extending it for the return match in April.
