Motherwell Photographic Society There was a very large turnout at Motherwell Photographic Society last Thursday for the first guest speaker of the season, Neil Barlow from Cowal Camera Club in Dunoon. Neil’s topic was a personal view of the Alps and after opening with a spectacular audio visual sequence he went on to speak about his love of the mountains and how he uses photography to capture a sense of the beauty and scale of the natural environment. Concentrating on two areas, Chamonix and Mont Blanc and Zermatt and the Matterhorn, he showed how colour, light and texture changes with the time of day and how differing weather conditions can be used to create dramatic images. Neil concluded his talk with some stunning images of a sunrise over the Matterhorn and a final audio visual sequence which culminated with a superb example of timelapse photography of a sunset in the mountains near Chamonix. Tomorrow (Thursday) the guest speaker will be Billie Currie and members are reminded that this is also the hand in night for entries in the first projected digital image competition of the season.
